The best Replit alternatives depend on which of Replit’s three jobs you want to replace: building, running or hosting. To build in the browser, look at Lovable, Bolt, v0 or Base44 for chat-built apps, or at GitHub Codespaces and Google AI Studio.

To run code on your own computer, look at Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, Dyad or Cyborb, a desktop AI agent from Orbioom. To host, look at Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel for front ends, and Render or Railway for servers.

Replit bundles all three jobs into one plan, from $20 a month on Core. That is convenient, and it is also why leaving means moving code, data and hosting one by one. We checked every price below on the vendor’s own page on September 28, 2026. Cyborb is our product, so it gets the same fields as the others and no ranking.

The short version
  • Replit does three jobs: an agent that builds, a cloud workspace that runs your code, and hosting. You can replace any one of them.
  • To build in the browser, chat builders such as Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Base44 are closest. GitHub Codespaces gives you a code workspace with 60 free hours a month on its smallest machine.
  • To run locally, use Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, Dyad or Cyborb, our product. Your own computer costs nothing per hour.
  • To host, match the app: Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel for front ends, and Render, Railway or Fly.io for always-on servers.
  • Skip Firebase Studio: it stopped taking new users on June 22, 2026 and closes in March 2027.

Why look for a Replit alternative?

Most people leave Replit over cost, over the free plan’s limits, or because they want their code and hosting somewhere they control. Here is what Replit’s own pages say, as of September 2026.

  • The free plan is small. Starter includes one published app, and Replit says that link “will automatically go down after 30 days”. It also carries a Made with Replit badge.

  • Core costs $20 a month, or $18 billed yearly, and includes $20 of monthly credits. Those credits pay for agent work, publishing, storage and databases alike.

  • Agent work is metered. Everyday work in Free Mode costs nothing up to an allowance. Paid work is priced by effort for each finished task, and Replit asks before a paid action starts.

To be fair to Replit, one bill covering everything is the point, you can set hard budget limits, and its cloud prices fell on August 1, 2026. Autoscale compute, for example, dropped from $3.20 to $0.60 per million compute units.

Where can I build apps like I do on Replit?

For apps you build by chatting, Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Base44 are the closest match. For a code workspace in the browser, use GitHub Codespaces, and for a free Google option, AI Studio’s Build mode.

The chat builders also host what they make, so they replace two of Replit’s jobs at once. Their credits, prices and export options are compared in our Lovable alternatives guide, and our app-building guide covers the walls you hit without code.

GitHub Codespaces is the nearest thing to Replit’s workspace: a full editor in the browser on a cloud machine, opened from a GitHub repository. Personal accounts on GitHub Free get 120 hours of compute a month, but an hour on a 2-core machine uses two of them. On the smallest machine, that makes 60 real hours.

We worked out what that quota costs in practice from GitHub’s published rates, checked on September 28, 2026. This is compute only; storage above the free 15 GB-month costs $0.07 per GB-month.

Hours on the 2-core machine in a monthHours beyond the free quotaCompute cost
600$0.00
8020$3.60
10040$7.20
160100$18.00

At two hours a day, the free quota lasts about a month. Without a payment method on file, GitHub blocks use when the quota runs out, so there is no surprise bill. Codespaces is a workspace, though, not an app builder or a host.

Google AI Studio builds a web app, with a React front end and a Node.js back end, or an Android app from a prompt. It syncs two ways with GitHub, exports a zip, and publishes to Google Cloud Run. Its Starter Tier publishes up to two apps without a Google Cloud project or billing account, on an address you pick under ai.studio.

Is there a Replit alternative that runs locally?

Yes. Cursor, Claude Code, Antigravity, Dyad and Cyborb, our product, all run on your own computer, where compute costs nothing per hour.

  • Cursor is an AI code editor. Its free Hobby plan includes limited agent requests, and Pro costs $20 a month.

  • Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding agent. It comes with Claude Pro and Max, but not with the free plan.

  • Antigravity is Google’s desktop coding tool built around agents. It is free for individuals with weekly rate limits, and Google AI Pro or Ultra raises them.

  • Dyad is a free, open-source app builder for your desktop that uses your own AI keys. Pro adds Dyad’s own AI credits for $20 a month.

  • Cyborb is a desktop agent that builds, runs and publishes from plain words, with hosting on a cyborb.app address included. Free includes 3 published sites, and Pro adds custom domains.

The trade-off is setup. You install what the project needs, such as Node.js or Python, and hosting becomes a separate choice. For more tools in this group, see Claude Code alternatives and Cursor alternatives.

Where can I host what I built on Replit?

It depends on what the app is. A static site or front end fits Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel, and an always-on server with background work fits Render, Railway or Fly.io.

Free tiers, commercial-use rules and first paid steps for all of them are in our guide to where to deploy your app, so we won’t repeat them here. Two parts of a Replit app need their own plan:

  • The database. Replit apps store data in PostgreSQL, so any Postgres host works. Our database guide compares free tiers.

  • Login. If your app uses Replit Auth, your users sign in with their Replit accounts, so you need a new login system after the move. Our guide to adding login safely compares the options.

How do you move a project off Replit?

Copy the code and the database separately, re-create the settings that do not copy, and move the domain last. These steps follow Replit’s own guide to copying a project.

  1. Download or push the code

In the file tree, open the three-dot menu and choose Download as zip. Or add the Git tool, connect a GitHub repository and turn on auto-sync.

  2. Copy the database

Run Replit’s pg_dump command in the old project’s Shell, then pg_restore at the new database. We ran both commands, exactly as Replit prints them, on a local PostgreSQL 16 test database; the output is in our export guide.

  3. Re-create secrets and settings

Replit says secrets, the database and deployment settings do not come along with the code. Add each secret at the new host by hand.

  4. Deploy and test on the new address

Use the host’s temporary address until the app works with real data.

  5. Move the domain last

Point your DNS at the new host with our custom domain guide. If you bought the domain through Replit, Replit Support can transfer it to another registrar, but only 60 days after purchase.

Is Replit still worth it?

Replit is still a good fit when you want one bill and one place for building, running and hosting, and you would rather not install anything. Core includes up to 5 builders in a workspace, and Replit can also take a mobile app through to App Store submission.

It fits less well when you already know where you want to host, or when you would rather pay for AI use without also paying for a cloud workspace.

FAQ

What is the best free alternative to Replit?

For a code workspace, GitHub Codespaces includes 120 hours of compute a month, which is 60 hours on the smallest machine. For apps built by chatting, try the free plans of Lovable, Bolt, v0 or Base44, or Google AI Studio. On your own computer, Dyad and Antigravity are free to start.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Replit Agent?

Replit Core, Cursor Pro, Claude Pro and Cyborb Pro all cost $20 a month, and Dyad and Antigravity are free to start. The real difference is how each one meters AI use, so compare allowances, not list prices. Our coding plans comparison does that.

Can I run a Replit project on my own computer?

Yes. Download it as a zip, install the language it uses, and run its usual start command. Secrets and the database stay behind, so copy the database with pg_dump and add your secrets to a local environment file.

Does Replit still have a free plan?

Yes. The Starter plan includes daily agent credits and one published app, which goes offline after 30 days. Unlimited published apps start on Core.

Key takeaways
  • Decide which of Replit’s jobs you are replacing: building, running or hosting.
  • Chat builders replace building and hosting; GitHub Codespaces replaces the workspace.
  • Local tools remove per-hour compute costs but make hosting your job.
  • Host front ends on Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel, and servers on Render, Railway or Fly.io.
  • Move code, database, secrets and domain as separate steps, domain last.
