ChatGPT Sites alternatives, by the limit you hit.

What ChatGPT Sites is, the five limits people run into, and which tools get around each one. Checked on OpenAI’s own pages.

ChatGPT Sites is OpenAI’s tool for building and hosting a website from a chat, in public beta since July 9, 2026 on Plus, Pro and workspace plans. The best alternative depends on the limit you hit: your plan, your region, your domain, exporting the code, or selling.

For a free option, look at Claude artifacts or Google AI Studio. For your own domain and your code, look at Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit or Base44, and for a shop, Wix. To build on your own computer, there is Cyborb, a desktop AI agent from Orbioom, which is our product and gets the same fields as everyone else.

We read OpenAI’s help pages, developer guide and terms on September 24, 2026, and rechecked all of it again on September 28.

The short version
  • ChatGPT Sites builds and hosts a site from a chat. It is in public beta on Plus ($20 a month), Pro and workspace plans, not on Free or Go.
  • At launch it was not available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. OpenAI removed that line from its help article between September 24 and 25, 2026, without announcing a change.
  • You can connect a domain you already own, but Sites does not sell domains, and OpenAI documents no way to export the code.
  • Selling is allowed only through a third-party payment provider, and refunds, support and taxes are yours.
  • Free alternatives include Claude artifacts and Google AI Studio. For your own domain and code, look at Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit, Base44 or Cyborb, our product.

What is ChatGPT Sites?

Each Site can have a database of up to 10 GB and file storage with no fixed limit, plus optional Sign in with ChatGPT and built-in visitor analytics. Every deploy goes straight to the live address, so OpenAI suggests saving a version and reviewing it before you deploy.

It is a beta, and the terms show it. OpenAI may add a note to your footer saying the site is powered by ChatGPT, and it may remove a Site “at any time for any reason”. You keep ownership of your content.

Can I use ChatGPT Sites on a free plan?

No. Sites is not available on ChatGPT Free or Go, and the cheapest plan with it is Plus, at $20 a month in the US, sold monthly. Pro starts at $100 a month, and Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces have it too.

During the beta, each plan also has usage limits. Hitting one can stop you creating a new Site, adding storage or keeping a busy Site public.

If you want to stay free, three routes work:

  • Claude artifacts. On Claude’s free plan you can publish an artifact made in a chat to a public link. Visitors do not need a Claude account, and you can embed it in another website, but there is no custom domain.

  • Google AI Studio. Its Build mode makes a web app from a prompt. The Google Cloud Starter Tier publishes up to two apps without a billing account, on a name under ai.studio, though anyone who has had a Google Cloud billing account cannot use it.

  • A builder’s free plan. Lovable, Bolt, v0, Base44 and Cyborb publish on their own addresses for free, within usage limits. Replit’s free plan keeps one app online for 30 days.

If ChatGPT already gave you a page of HTML, you do not need Sites at all. Our guide to publishing a website you made with AI shows free ways to put it online.

Can I use ChatGPT Sites in the UK or EU?

Not at launch, and the current answer is unclear. OpenAI’s July 9, 2026 release note said public publishing and the wider beta were not available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK at launch, and its main Sites help article said the same when we checked on September 24.

On September 25, the region line had been removed from that help article, and it is still gone as of September 28. OpenAI never published a note explaining the change.

The archived July 9 release note has not been edited, though. It still says plainly that the EEA, Switzerland and UK were excluded at launch.

A separate OpenAI help page on Sites responsibilities still says availability “varies by plan and region.” If you are in Europe or the UK, check whether Sites appears under Work in your own account.

The pricing pages we read for the other tools in this guide list no EEA, Swiss or UK exclusion. If you care where your data is stored, note that Sites does not offer data residency at launch, while Lovable Cloud lets you choose a Europe region for new projects’ data.

Can I use my own domain with ChatGPT Sites?

Yes, if you already own it. Sites does not sell domains, so you buy one elsewhere and add the DNS records Sites gives you, and custom domains are not available in Enterprise workspaces at launch.

Several builders let you buy the domain in the same place: Lovable, Bolt, Replit, Base44 and Cyborb all offer it. Wix includes a free first-year domain with most paid plans, and Framer does with yearly plans. Our guide to connecting a custom domain explains the DNS records in plain English.

A domain bought inside a builder is convenient, but learn how to move it before you need to. Our export guide has the transfer steps for each platform.

Can I export the code from ChatGPT Sites?

OpenAI’s Sites documentation describes no export or download option. The exception is the desktop app, where a Site can be linked to a project folder on your computer, with each saved version tied to a Git commit, so that code stays with you.

If you want to be able to leave, pick a tool that syncs with GitHub or builds on your computer. Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit and Base44 sync with GitHub, and Claude lets you copy or download an artifact’s code. Framer and Wix sites cannot be exported at all.

Can I sell things from a ChatGPT Sites page?

Yes, but only through a third-party payment provider, and the business side is yours. OpenAI’s Sites terms, updated July 23, 2026, allow selling through payment providers you set up yourself. You handle fulfillment, refunds, customer support and taxes.

The Site itself must not handle card numbers; only the payment provider may. One older OpenAI help page still lists “enable financial transactions” among banned uses, so read the current terms before you take money.

Other tools make selling more direct. Wix has payments and a store built in, from its Core plan at $29 a month billed yearly in the US. Bolt documents a Stripe integration for one-time payments and subscriptions, and our guide to adding payments to your app compares the providers.

FAQ

When did ChatGPT Sites launch?

OpenAI announced the public beta on July 9, 2026. Business and Enterprise workspaces already had Sites and gained public publishing that day. The rollout reached Pro, Pro Lite and Edu users first, with Plus following over the next days.

What is the cheapest way to put an AI-made site on my own domain?

We added up a first year of each cheapest qualifying plan. v0 on Vercel’s free Hobby plan costs nothing but rules out commercial use. Billed yearly, Framer Basic comes to $120, Base44 Starter to $192, Wix Light to $204 in the US, and Replit Core or Cyborb Pro to $216. ChatGPT Plus is $240, and Lovable Pro or Bolt Pro $300 billed monthly. The domain itself is extra.

Who owns a site made with ChatGPT Sites?

You do. OpenAI’s terms say you keep any ownership rights in your content, and OpenAI gets a license to host and display it. You are also responsible for the site, including anything visitors post on it.

What is the best alternative to ChatGPT Sites?

It depends on which limit you hit. To stay free, use Claude artifacts or Google AI Studio. For your own domain and code you can take with you, use Lovable, Bolt, v0, Replit or Base44. For a shop, use Wix.

Key takeaways
  • ChatGPT Sites builds and hosts sites from a chat, for Plus, Pro and workspace plans only.
  • It launched without the EEA, Switzerland and the UK; check your own account before you plan around it.
  • It connects domains you already own but documents no code export.
  • Selling works only through a third-party payment provider, with the business side on you.
  • Choose the alternative by the limit you hit: plan, region, domain, export or selling.
